# How do I redeem a free access code?

If you’ve been given a free access code (for example, as a prize or through your university) you can use it to unlock access to one of our premium products.

## How to redeem your access code

1. Log in to [app.geekymedics.com](https://app.geekymedics.com/login/). If you don’t have an account yet, register [here](https://app.geekymedics.com/register/)
2. Once logged in, go to this page: 👉 [https://app.geekymedics.com/purchase/institutional-access/](https://app.geekymedics.com/purchase/institutional-access/)
3. Enter your access code in the box
4. Click **Redeem code**

Your account will then be granted access to the relevant product, and you’ll be taken straight to your new content.

|| Codes aren’t case-sensitive, so it doesn’t matter whether you type yours in capitals or lower case.

## What if I was sent a link instead?

Some codes are shared as a direct link. Clicking it redeems the code for you - there’s nothing else to do. If you’re not logged in, you’ll be asked to log in or register first, and the code is then applied automatically.

## How long does my access last?

That depends on the code. Most grant access for **a year from the day you redeem it**, but some are set to a different period. A code may also grant [AI credits](/en/article/what-are-ai-credits-124hbwj/) alongside the product access.

## My code isn’t working

| Message | What it means |
| ---- |
| Invalid code | The code doesn’t match one we’ve issued - check carefully for typos |
| This code has reached its maximum number of uses | Every place on the code has already been claimed |
| This code is not yet valid | Access hasn’t started yet - check the start date you were given |
| This code has expired | The redemption window has closed |

Each code can only be redeemed **once per account**. If you’ve already used yours, you’ll simply be taken to your content rather than seeing an error.
