Introduction to our institutional virtual patient platform
Our institutional virtual patient platform allows institutions to create custom AI-powered virtual patients for their students to access.
What is a virtual patient?
A virtual patient is an AI-powered patient that allows students to practise consultation skills in a safe environment. The virtual patient responds naturally to the student’s questions, with both text and speech interactions supported.
Virtual patients are based on human-written scripts, which means you can fully customise each scenario to match the needs of your curriculum. Examples include:
- Taking a history from a patient with chest pain
- Explaining childhood vaccinations to a concerned parent
- Breaking bad news to a patient with a new diagnosis of cancer
Standard mode vs Advanced mode
When students launch a virtual patient station, they will first be shown the candidate instructions. These describe the scenario and outline what they are expected to do (e.g. take a focused history).
After reviewing the instructions, students can choose how to run the station:
- Standard mode – interact with the patient via text or voice. Students can enable the Patient voice option to hear spoken replies.
- Advanced mode – interact in real time for the most realistic simulation of a live consultation.
Features of our institutional virtual patient platform
Our institutional virtual patient platform allows you to:
- Create custom virtual patients for your students to access
- Organise these virtual patients into Circuits (groups of virtual patients)
- Review student transcripts and performance data after they complete your institutional virtual patients
Institutional virtual patients are completely separate from:
- Personal user-created virtual patients
- Geeky Medics virtual patients
Institutions cannot see any data from personal or Geeky Medics virtual patients, and they can only create, manage, and review their own institutional virtual patients.
