How do I access the SCA Virtual Patients (AI patients)?

AI-powered virtual patients are available for most of our pre-made SCA cases. These are designed to help you practise your consultation and clinical reasoning skills in a simulated GP setting.

Virtual patients are intended for solo use. If you’d prefer to practise with others, check out Group Practice Mode for SCA cases.

All users can access virtual patients. To enable Patient voice or use Advanced mode, you will need to purchase AI credits.

Interacting with the SCA virtual patients

To get started:

Open a SCA case
Click the Virtual patient option on the case launchpad

Accessing the SCA virtual patients

If this option isn’t shown, the case doesn’t currently support a virtual patient.

You’ll first be shown the candidate instructions, giving you time to review the case scenario.

After reviewing the instructions, you’ll be prompted to choose between two modes:

Standard mode

Available to all users
Interact by typing or using your voice
If you have AI credits, you can enable the Patient voice toggle to hear spoken replies
If you don’t have credits, the patient will reply using text only

Advanced mode

Requires AI credits
Uses our most realistic AI model with real-time voice conversation
Designed to simulate natural consultation flow with back-and-forth dialogue
Voice is always enabled in this mode

To enable Patient voice in Standard mode, ensure you have AI credits and toggle it on before starting the consultation.
