How do I access the virtual examiner (AI examiner) in the OSCE stations platform?
Our virtual examiner is a helpful tool when you're practising OSCEs solo, especially alongside our AI-powered virtual patients. The virtual examiner can mark your performance and give constructive feedback on your communication skills.
You can access the virtual examiner in one of two ways:
By subscribing to the OSCE Stations collection
By purchasing AI credits: this allows you to use the virtual examiner with your own personal stations, even if you don’t have an OSCE Stations subscription
Learn more about our virtual patients here
The virtual examiner is an AI tool that observes your interaction with a virtual patient - whether spoken or typed - and provides structured feedback.
It can:
Complete the OSCE checklist
Provide free text feedback on your communication and overall performance
The virtual examiner does not ask viva questions, it focuses purely on marking and feedback.
Practise a history taking or counselling station with a virtual patient
Speak or type to the patient - you'll need to have entered at least 500 characters for the virtual examiner to activate
When you're finished, click End session
You’ll then see a pop-up offering you the option for auto-marking with AI - this feature will auto mark the checklist based on your conversation log

The examiner will complete the OSCE checklist. You can review and adjust it if needed
Click Done to move to the feedback screen
You’ll receive a summary score, with the option to generate free text AI-powered examiner feedback

The feedback is designed to be constructive and actionable. If something doesn’t seem right, you can report it to us directly.
Tip: if you don't see the option to request AI examiner feedback, this is because your conversation was too short. You'll need to have entered at least 500 characters for the virtual examiner to activate.
You can save your feedback using the Share button (to generate a link) or download it as a PDF.
If you have any questions or run into issues, feel free to get in touch - we're happy to help!
