How can I get the virtual patient to speak?
The Virtual Patient voice feature is only available if you have purchased AI credits.
Even if you have an OSCE Stations subscription, the Virtual Patient will reply using typed responses only unless you also have AI credits.
Generating spoken responses is significantly more resource-intensive (and costly) than text replies. To help manage these costs and keep the overall platform affordable, we’ve made voice replies available only to users who purchase AI credits.
This allows us to offer the feature in a sustainable way, without increasing the cost of our OSCE Stations product.
Purchase AI credits
When interacting with a Virtual Patient, turn on the ‘Patient voice’ toggle (see screenshot below)
The Virtual Patient will then respond using their voice

If you've turned on the voice option and still can't hear anything, it may be due to your browser’s autoplay settings.
